He has only been with us for a month he has come from Romania and has made amazing progress, he has never attempted to escape or run off, yesterday he had his first shower as he was very itchy which he really enjoyed, then we took him over the field close to home where he zoomed around playing with our other dog, on the way out of the field he rolled in a big wet pile of cow poo, so when we got home we attempted to wash around his neck with a hose, which was fine, but the water stopped obvious an air lock so we removed the hose when it spurted out with a loud sound, this terrified him and he pulled out from his lead and collar and took off up the lane, (usually he is in his escape proof harness but because he was soaking wet after his shower we just put him on the lead, and tbh he walks perfectly on both) we assume that noise reminded him of a traumatic event in his life, as we live on a very popular walking route and there was a lot of people about we asked everyone if they had seen him, nobody had, i think he has taken himself deep into the undergrowth and is now to scared to come home, we are beside ourselves with worry, he is such a beautiful dog, and was making so much progress.

Hi Karen, he is probably hiding nearby, he will need some time to settle. Please follow all the advice I have given you and please register on DogLost as unfortunately we do not have many volunteers in your area, they have more volunteers and you will get more shares. Try walking around the area with your other dog, do not call or whistle, just talk normally. People should not search in large groups shouting his name, this will just push him further away. Please refer to the section of this site for emergency numbers if there are any nearby hazards. Notify the relevant authorities, who will put alerts out and remain vigilant.

Hi Karen, we are sorry to hear Jack is missing. As your dog ran from home, he may try to return once he has settled. Most dogs will return to their home or point of loss. Securely place some unwashed clothing belonging to the person that your dog is most bonded with near the door that he uses with a small amount of strong smelling food and some water. Check any cctv in the area and make neighbours aware your dog is missing and ask them to check gardens, sheds, garages and any out buildings in case he is stuck or hiding . He hopefully won’t have gone too far and will be hiding and make his way back. Please register on DogLost it will reach more volunteers. Also contact your local vets and the dog warden. Post on local Facebook pages and put up posters around the area.

Yes i have registered on Doglost, where we live is quite rural, with lots of trees, small woodlands, wilderness and scrub which goes on for a quite some way etc, we did not see which way he went, so he could of gone on any number of tracks or paths, Jack is frightened of strangers so will not go where there are people, i believe he has got further and further into the wild, i worry he may now be frightened to come home after being frightened by the loud noise, though i have been leaving my garden gate and back door open during the night, we have put clothes by the door, we have numerous foxes, badgers, even rats around so any food we would put out would instantly be gone., i think a drone is the only way of finding him.
